How to change image background

This tutorial will show you how to change image background and make fun collage.

All images and steps are valid for Corel (Jasc) Paint Shop Pro 7,8,9,X, X1, X2, X3.


This tutorial contains the following sections:

Step 1: Choose suitable images for collage

Let we want to make collage from jumping dolphin (image was uploaded on Flickr by Pug Father photostream under CC license)

and St James Park, London photo as new background (image was uploaded on Flickr by Dan Perry under CC license)

Step 2: Extract dolphin from the image

Extract dolphin from the image

To open an image, choose File->Open. Browse for the image file then click OK.

Promote background image to layer using Layers->Promote Background layer command.

Run Background Remover plug-in by Effects->ImageSkill->Background Remover 3 and extract the dolphin.

Use Magic Wand and Defringe Zone tools for extraction.

Press OK button and return to editor.

Step 3: Copy and paste extracted image on new background

Copy extracted dolphin by Edit->Copy (Ctrl+C) command.

Then open St James Park image and paste dolphin asn new layer using Edit->Paste as New Layer (Ctrl+L) command.

Copy and paste extracted image on new background.

Step 4: Adjust image size and position

To achieve good composition use Pick tool - short key K

Use Pick tool for adjusting

Use controls in order to move, scale and rotate new layer in order to receive good effect

Use Crop tool to make final image

After that use Crop tool - short key R and make final image.

Step 5: Save a final result

Merge all and save result

Merge the result using Layer->Merge->Merge All (Flatten) and save result in suitable graphic format (BMP, JPEG etc.)
